Secs. 2-223.01 Group Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
The City makes available to all full-time regular employees group medical, dental, vision and life insurance after a certain number of days of employment as follows:
Participation is voluntary.
For those employees who elect to participate, the City currently pays one hundred percent (100%) for the employee's coverage. Family coverage is available at the employee's option, provided the employee pays the premium through payroll deduction. The current employee contribution rates are available from the HR as are the various options as to coverage and types of insurance available. A booklet explaining the plans, contributions, and how and where to file a claim is also available through HR.
Secs. 2-223.02 Section 125 Plan
The City has an IRS-approved Section 125 Plan by which eligible employees may pay their share of group insurance premiums through payroll deduction with before-tax dollars. Contact HR for details.
(a) Employees who are hired on or after July 1, 2001 will not be entitled to participate in any City insurance plan upon retirement.
(b) Employees hired prior to July 1, 2001 are entitled to participate in the group medical insurance plan up to age 65 and after age 65 in the City-approved Medicare Supplement, if the City has approved one, at their own expense.
(c)The city will comply with PSOHB (Public Safety Officers' Health Benefits) and the LLEBG (Local Law Enforcement Block Grant) requirements. Employees eligible for this benefit shall meet the definitions provided in Section 1204(5) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 for a public safety officer and an injury suffered as a direct result of a personal injury sustained in the line of duty while responding to an emergency situation or hot pursuit.
