BOAT RAMP CLOSED FOR RENOVATION
The Lake Wailes boat ramp will be closed starting Wednesday, April 16, 2008 until June 1, 2008 for renovations and rehab of the badly deteriorated ramp. An informational meeting will be held Thursday, April 17 in the Lake Wales City Commission Chambers at 5:30 P.M. regarding the planned improvements.

UTILITY LIFELINE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Lifeline Program was developed to aid Lake Wales' low-income residential water and sewer customers. If eligible for the program, a customer will receive a credit on his or her monthly utility bill that reduces the bill by an amount equal to the base charge for household water and sewer services. OLD CITY HALL
On November 27, 2006, the City Commission unanimously approved giving Old City Hall to Polk Community College for a Lake Wales Campus. Built in 1927, the historic building has been vacant since 1998 when the city's administrative offices were moved to their current location. PCC has received a $3.6 million grant from the state to renovate the building for college use. Plans call for five 30-seat classrooms, two 45-seat computer classrooms and a 30-seat room for classes and community use. Renovations are expected to be completed by June 2009.

LIMITED INCOME SENIOR EXEMPTION
Effective January 1, 2007, homeowners who qualify for the regular homestead exemption are eligible for up to $25,000 additional exemption from city ad valorem taxes if they are 65 years of age or older and if they have a total household adjusted gross income that does not exceed the limit set by the state during the previous tax year. Information about this exemption and application forms are available on the Property Appraiser's web site.

MUNICIPAL FINE ARTS SHOW
The Lake Wales Arts Council and the City of Lake Wales present the Municipal Fine Arts Show. Art works by a variety of local artists are displayed in the lobby and hallways of the Municipal Administration Building which is open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Exhibits are changed quarterly. |

A key element of the four-point Main Street Approach is Promotion; i.e., marketing Downtown Lake Wales to shoppers, investors, new businesses, tourists and others. Important in this effort are special events and ongoing programs that build a positive image of the Downtown area as the vital economic, civic and social heart of the community.
