About the Department
The Lake Wales Fire Department provides fire services to the City of Lake Wales, a small city in Central Florida of 19.14 sq. miles with a current population of 12,760. The department's service area also includes parts of unincorporated Polk County and is approximately 20 square miles in size.
The Lake Wales Fire Department is staffed by twenty-one line personnel, a full-time Fire Marshal, and our Fire Chief, Jerry Brown.
The Department operates three engines, one ladder, one tanker, one squad, one brush unit and one rescue boat out of two stations. The Lake Wales Fire Department responds to approximately 2,500 emergencies per year including rescue, vehicle accidents and structural incidents.
In May 2005, the department opened its second station to provide fire protection and a faster repsonse to the northern area of the city. The temporary facility is located off of Thompson Nursery Road and houses two firefighters and Engine 1. The permanent station is to be located off of Chalet Suzanne Road and is scheduled for construction in 2008.
Our main fire station is located in the Municipal Services Center at 253 W. Central Avenue, just east of the intersection of U.S. 27 and Central Avenue. You're welcome to stop in for a tour if you happen to be in the neighborhood.
