Assistant City Manager

James Slaton began his tenure with the City of Lake Wales in 2005 and is currently the Assistant City Manager, previously serving as the Director for Information Technology, Public Services, and Support Services. In his current role, James oversees the day-to-day operations and capital improvement programs for the departments of Public and Support Services: Parks & Recreation, Street Maintenance, the Lake Wales Municipal Airport, Cemetery Operations, Information Technology, Facilities Maintenance, Purchasing, and Fleet Maintenance. He is a member of the International City/County Management Association, the Florida City and County Management Association, and the American Public Works Association. James holds an Associate of Science in Computer Network Engineering Systems from Polk State College, a Bachelor of Applied Science in Public Administration from Polk State College, and is obtaining a Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governor's University. Mr. Slaton is a 2019 graduate of Leadership ICMA and completed the University of Virginia's Senior Executive Institute in 2018. James is an alumnus of Leadership Polk and Leadership Lake Wales.
