Have you ever seen a rather ghostly, maybe glowing, critter gliding through the trees? You may have been lucky enough to spot an American flying squirrel. Unlike bats, these critters don’t actually fly, but a membrane stretching from wrist to ankle allows them to glide for relatively long distances.
Fun facts: they can grow larger than a house cat; they fly and can glow at night; and 90% of flying squirrel species are found only in Asia. While flying squirrels might try to share your attic space, your best option is to seal off any openings to keep them or other rodents out.
Insects and animals featured in "Critter Tales" may be found around Lake Wales and in areas, such as Tiger Creek Preserve and Lake Wales Ridge National Wildlife Refuge.
